Relief Device QA/QC

Adequately designed, installed and maintained Pressure Relieving Systems and their documentation are a critical part of a facilities Process Safety Management program. Equity Engineering offers assurance of compliance with OSHA, DOT, API and ASME requirements by using generally accepted good engineering practice for overpressure protection in industry facilities; demonstrating consistent calculation methodology in respective PRD applications; and creating a comprehensive record of existing PRDs with sizing and installation information in a database that can be customized to fit management and operational needs. As part of a relief device QA/QC program, we:

Review existing relief device calculations and specifications based on ASME and API requirements, including PRD sizing and installation assessment (inlet/outlet pipe sizing and routing)
Review the Owner/Operator pressure relief device standard for compliance with DOT, ASME and API requirements and guidelines
Review and revise scenarios or develop new scenarios, as required
Review P&IDs for adequate depiction of relief devices and their routing

Nam Le, P.E.

Mr. Le is responsible for engineering consulting services in the area of process engineering and pressure relief systems in chemical, oil and gas, and petrochemical industries. He reviews and evaluates the existing relief systems, develops relief scenarios, calculates relief requirements, identifies deficiencies and makes risk mitigation recommendations. Mr. Le is familiar with ASME codes, API 520, API 521 and API 2000 standards for relief system design. He is also fluent in AICHE’s Diers Technology for two-phase relief analysis.

Mr. Le has experience in process development including process simulation, heat and material balances, process equipment design and specifications, process flow diagrams, utility balances, and development of P&IDs. Process simulation includes ASPEN, HYSIS, PHAST, HTRI, FATHOM, FLARENET and INTOOLS. He designs and develops specifications for vessels, heat transfer equipment, packed and tray columns, pumps and compressors.

During his engineering career, Mr. Le has worked for many clients including Invista, Lyondell, DuPont, General Electric, Exxon Mobil and Conoco. He has extensive international experience, having worked on other industry related projects in countries such as Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Costa Rica, India, Togo, Venezuela and Vietnam.
